Private Rooms
Use a short-lived encrypted room when a handoff needs a small private conversation.
What a room is for
A room is for temporary discussion around a handoff. It is not a permanent team chat, knowledge base, or customer-support archive.
- Use rooms for short-lived exchanges
- Avoid secrets in normal chat tools
- Burn or let rooms expire when the handoff is done
Standalone room links
A standalone room route opens only the room experience, not the full account console. Room routes must remain out of sitemaps and social previews.
- Use /room links for recipients
- Keep invite material private
- Do not index room routes
Participant limits
Private Rooms are paid-only to create. Pro remains a 1:1 room product. Pro workspaces and Enterprise can create bounded group rooms with higher participant and message limits.
- Pro: 10 active rooms, 250 messages per room, 2 participants
- Workspace: 50 active rooms, 500 messages per room, 10 participants
- Enterprise: 200 active rooms, 1,000 messages per room, 25 participants
Passphrase-protected invites
A room passphrase wraps the room key in the browser fragment. The passphrase is not persisted by Shhhs. A wrong passphrase should not join the room because the local client cannot unwrap the room key.
- Wrapped key in fragment
- Passphrase shared out of band
- Wrong passphrase blocks join
